Network card unplugged but ipconfig/route does not agree

Hi,

I have a Thinkpad T40 with an Intel PRO/100 network card & wireless.

When I am at work, I have both connections running. I hibernate, go home,
and when at home I use only the wireless connection.

Windows can successfully detect the wired network is unplugged (the system
tray icon changes and says "A network cable is unplugged", and the state is
"unplugged" in Network Connections). However, ipconfig does not report
"Media State: Cable disconnected", and the IP remains bound to the card. It
has a lower metric than my wireless connection, therefore network
connectivity is lost until I release the IP of the (unplugged) wired LAN
card.

I don't know for sure but I think this might have started with SP2. I also
have a software ethertap adapter for OpenVPN but I have disabled that and
the fault remains.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Craig

Making a change in the system configuration (such as unplugging the
wired network connection) while the system is hibernating can produce
unexpected results when it wakes up. Disable the wired network
connection before hibernating.

I will try this, but as I say, it used to work fine under the exact same
behaviour. I will investigate with a pre-SP2 machine if I get a chance and
see if this has regressed.
