"Network Cable" message on Taskbar

This is a small question about an annoying problem. I am always getting the
icon that says "Local Area Connection A Network Cable is Unplugged" on my
bottom taskbar. I'm not on a network, in the first place. I keep
right-clicking properties & selecting the "always hide" on this icon, but it
keeps coming back. Is there something I can do to get rid of this?

Right click on taskbar icon and select "open network connections" or goto
Start > Control Panel >Network Connections. Right click on the connection
and select "properties." Under "General" and lower section of window,
deselect "notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity."

That is normal if you are using a laptop. Check the side of the PC for a LAN
(Local Area Network) card and remove it before boot that will remove the icon.

Thank you, I've done that now. I'll give it a week or so to see if the
annoying little guy comes back. I appreciate your help.

Hey, I did that and it didn't work. The icon was back this morning.
Any other ideas?

If you are not on a network, and don't use the connection, you could go
into Device Manager and disable the network card. Don't completely
remove it, or it will just redetect it and install it again on the next
bootup - just disable it.

If you are sometimes on a network (if this is a laptop, for example), you
should be able to set up another hardware profile
[My_Computer/Properties/Hardware] which you can select at startup. You
can then have various devices enabled in one profile, but not the other.

Go back to the same place that the other guy told you to go to, but choose
to "disable" it instead. Since you aren't using the LAN, you don't need it
running (using up system resources) anyway. You will NEVER see that message
again, guaranteed, unless something re-enables the connection...

I did what you said, and it completely disappeared from the taskbar. Thanks
so much for your help!

I have this same problem. However, when I disable the Network card from the
Device Manager, it disconnects me from the internet until it is reenabled. I
have Charter Cable Internet.
