Network Cable is Unplugged

There are many occassions that my network cable
becomes "unplugged" according to the system icon tray.
My cable modem cable is not unplugged in reality but I
end up having to wait at least 5 minutes before it
resolves itself. Very annoying. Does anyone have any
suggestions? You can see the light go from green to
amber on the modem.

Is this the Lan Connection or the Dial Up Connection.

I have never seen a dail up connection show unplugged,
ith sys tray icon disapears when the connection is down.
As regards a LAN connection, it appears unplugged 9Red X
over sys tray icon) when the connection is broken, ie the
cable is unplugged, the network card is giving trouble or
the cable has a short in it.

Try the solution in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article, even if you
use a different network card:
