Ok here are the details:
I have an IP address for my router.
Everything looks fine, however, my XP computer will not resolve names. If I
ping www.google.com, I get nothing. If I ping the IP address, it's fine. I
looked at my services and the DNS client is running. My computer came with
ICS running. I took it off and my connection went to crap. I even tried
telling XP that my computer connects to the internet through a switch/hub
like all my other computers. My XP laptop works (even though it has ICS,
which I am not touching). My Linux machines work fine also. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.

More infor:
I can ping my default gateway (router) IP
I can ping all three DNS servers IP
DNS Client service is running

Very frustrating

You mean you have an IP address FROM your router?

[Do Start Menu > Run, cmd.exe, then ipconfig /all POST THE OUTPUT]

Do you have another PC sharing the router/internet connection on your PC?
If NOT, then turn off ICS, you do NOT need it.

Since you have a router, you don't need ICS. If you've shared a
network connection with ICS, disable ICS to un-share it.

With a router, the right connection option for the Network Setup
Wizard is that your computer connects to the Internet through a
residential gateway, not through a switch/hub.

Are there any relevant error messages in Start | Control Panel |
Performance and Maintenance | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer?

I finally took the plunge and removed the network adapter (software wise
, not physically) and rebooted. When Windows came back up, it went
through the whole rigamaroll of installing the network adapter. This got
everything back up again. I do have the Internet Gateway icon labled
Internet Connection in my Network Connections window. Is this supposed
to be there? When I went throught the setup, I told Windows that this is
not a shared connection and that I was hooked to a hub/switch. Anyway,
thanks for all the advice.
