Network adapter box empty in Network Properties

I am trying to install and configure the iPass client. When doing so, I
encountered the following problem : the text box next to "Connect using" in
the Network Properties box of both my LAN and WiFi connections is empty.
Therefore iPass won't let me configure any options.

I must stress two things :

1) both network connections work perfectly
2) this is a Windows problem, not iPass. I did a System Restore to before
when the iPass client was installed and the problem was still apparent

Have you tried removing the adapters, both the driver and physically if
that's possible (i.e. not embedded), and rebooting, then reinstalling?

Apologies, I forgot to add those details.

I have indeed tried to delete and reinstall the network cards via the Device
Manager. Since it is a laptop, I have no other alternatives that I am aware
of. Both attempts were refused with messages to the effect that the devices
might be required to boot the computer. Same thing in Safe Mode

Thx
