I have recently learded about the net time command. My question is, once you
have net time set up, how often does it reach out to update its time clock?
Thanks in advance.

Bill,

From Help & Support Center:
If synchronization is enabled, your computer clock is synchronized with an
Internet time server once a week. However, if you don't have a continuous
Internet connection through a cable modem or DSL modem, the automatic
synchronization might not always occur. In that case, you can force an immediate
synchronization by clicking the Update Now button on the Internet Time tab in
Date and Time in Control Panel. This tab is only available if your computer is
not a member of a domain.

Once a week. Not too often, huh?

I'd use a third party product IIWY. Plenty of freeware and shareware products
do way better.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

We are on a domain without an internet connection. We do have a server set up
as a SNTP server that gets its time from a GPS reciever. I would like to have
a way to update the clocks on a more frequent basis with the Net Time
function. I have not found any commands that specify to set the update
interval.
Thanks

Yes, we are on a domain, without an external internet connection. We do have
a server set up as a SNTP server that gets its update data from a GPS
receiver. I would like to setup the XP machines so that they would update
their clocks more frequently than once a week. I have not found any commands
for Net Time that controls the update interval.
Thanks in advance for any support that you can provide.

Bill,

Did you read these Microsoft articles?

I personally use a third party solution that works for more than Windows XP, and
is extremely configurable. If you're willing to go with third party software,
you can find dozens of candidates from Download.com
<http://www.download.com/2001-20-0.html?legacy=cnet>, or Tucows
<http://www.tucows.com/>. And a Google or Yahoo search will net you a few more
possibilities too.

It's generally sufficient to place the net time command in the login script.
This command synchs time only when it is run. If you see a need for more
frequent updates, you could us the task scheduler to run it in a batch file
at periodic intervals.
