I can't access the Web, iTunes and a Telnet talker I visit. However, Skype
and Outlook mail seem just fine. This happened suddenly last night. I tried
system restore and both times I got a message saying system restore did not
work. I've rebooted my computer, wireless router and cable box numerous
times. My wireless desktop icons report that connectivity and speed are just
fine.

Why can I access some apps and not others? Could it be that my XP is
corrupted and needs to be reinstalled? If so, is this a difficult process?

Can you ping IP addresses? For instance, can you ping 72.14.207.99 (click
Start, then click Run, type "cmd", click OK, type "ping 72.14.207.99 "
[w/out the quotation marks], and hit the Enter key).

Unfortunately, I'm not at my home machine at the moment. If I am able to ping
the machine what will that tell me? If I am unable to ping the machine what
does that mean?

Thanks

OK, and if it's a DNS issue (every Web site I tried to visit would not come
up) what do I do?

You can use different DNS server addresses (e.g., 208.67.222.222 /
208.67.220.220).

Did you check "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" (by default, "Obtain
DNS server address automatically" is selected) and your proxy settings
("Settings" or "LAN Settings..." in Internet Options > Connections)?

Click Start, Run, type:

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter key

Restart the system

You can also try this software download from a working machine:
