Need XP Service Pack 1 (FULL)

E

Eddie Kasper

I had to reinstall XP onto my new hard drive but this one does not have
interent access at the moment because I think the Linksys drivers and
hardware are not support.

I tried installing SP3 but it could not do that because it requires the
minimum of SP1.

So I am looking for the full SP1 download that I can burn on my cd and
install it onto my new hard drive at another computer. I looke at MS
download but all I find is Internet Explore Service Pack 1.

If SP1 is not available, how about SP2 then?

Thanks.

SP1a is available.
SP2 is as well.

If I were you - I would jump straight to SP2 - but I would also make sure
that all of your hardware device drivers were fully up to date before I did.
You would do this *not* from Microsoft (unless you happen to have some
Microsoft hardware you need drivers for) but from the actual manufacturer's
of each hardware component.

In any case - you asked for the location of SP1a (SP1 was quickly superceded
by SP1a for legal reasons) and/or SP2.

There is no 'friendly' ISO images - just the full executables. All the rest
is just pretty fluff anyway. ;-)

For SP3...

With proper preparation - you are unlikely to have problems - and if you
have been performing proper maintenance all along - even if you do - you are
only out a short period of time (restoring from the backup/drive image you
made wisely before diving in...)

Suggestions:

1) Download the full SP3 installation file and/or burn the ISO download to
CD.
2) Ensure (as well as plausible) you have no spyware/malware by doing a full
scan with SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes.
3) CHKDSK
4) Defragment
5) Ensure your hardware drivers are up to date (from the hardware
manufacturer's respective web pages.)
6) Reboot right before you try to install SP3.
7) Disconnect from the internet before installing (physically.)
8) Disable your antivirus and antispyware applications when you are about to
install SP3.

Some (if not all) of that is covered in the above links.

Other than "Automatic Updates" or the Windows Update web page - how can you
get SP3?

Hope that helps - come back and let everyone know. This message will be
archived someplace (perhaps several places) for years to come and your reply
on whether or not it helped could ease someone elses mind if they are
looking for the same answers and see that it indeed worked for you!

Thanks guys. I did google it but I could never find the full SP1 or SP2,
just the one that did online update.

I got it up and running now.

Thanks.
