need to format disk before restoring?

Hi all,

i did a 'compaq quick restore' to return my hard drive to its
original state, but there seems to be a couple errors.

1.) Roxio CD creator is missing
2.) my instant internet buttons (that take you to a predetermined webpage,
configured by me) are the same, even though the pages they point to are very
unique. these were obviously not erased.
3.) some start menu bugs

do i need to format my disk before doing the quick restore?

Spiderman,

Normally, you don't need to format or FDisk the drive. Compaq QR should do it for you automatically. You will need to check with Compaq Support Techs as I've heard that a Diagnostics mode of QR method is available (using CTRL - Q something) for this issue.

This is not an XP issue at all.

Also depends on what type of quick retore you did
Most Compaq's have 2 partitions on there HDD
The 2nd is use for backing up users data a bit like XP's system restore

So when you run QR you should have the option to choose what type of restore to want to do

If software is missing you can choose the compaq help within windows, then choose Quick Restore

This should give you a few options, See if you have a software icon (depends on model). you will be able to reinstall/uninstall software from compaq there
if this is not there you would have had the CD supplied with the PC
Also try this web site it may help if they have your Compaq P

cut and paste this will get you to there compaq range
