Need summary of # of files in Windows Explorer

In Windows 98 when I open Explorer, there is a summary at the bottom of the
window which shows how many objects are in the selected folder
e.g. 78 object(s).

I have tried to find a way to show this in Windows XP Home to no avail.
Nothing I check under the options makes this summary show up.

How is this done?

View Menu - click Status Bar to check it
