need printer help

I can't get my Compaq to print to my IBM 4019 laser
printer or my HP 3520 printer. The IBM takes 3 sheets of
paper to print one page and the HP won't print at all. The
printers are full of toner and ink. The HP is brand new
and hooks to a USB port. I'm ready to trash the whole
system!!! Any ideas?
 
Did you install the software BEFORE you connected the printer to the PC?
