Does anyone know of a software program that will troubleshoot XP?

Every fix-it program I have ever tried will not work on XP. Naturally.
That leaves me with chkdsk/f and defraging the system !!!! And, that is just not working.

My Problem? I keep showing that files are fragmented and getting allowcation errors. I do a defrag and run chkdsk/f and the errors don't go away and sometimes get worse if you can beleive that. I am also getting Prefetch errors? What's up with that?

windows\Prefetch\Cmd.exe-087b4001.pf
Windows\Prefetch\CHKDSK.EXE-2CC4C50d

Help! (e-mail address removed)

PS
Honestly, XP in my opinion leaves a lot to be desired at least with windows 98 I could do basic trouble shooting. Yes, XP is dah...dah...dah...better for security and with supposedly less crash problems. But is it really? When it XP crashes you have to call in to get another key and assure some teki that you really do own the program your installing and yes your computer really did crash, and no your not installing one program on two computers.....not to mention that if you cannnot trouble shoot your problem before your system crashes you'll have to spend at least $35.00 to $50.00 calling microsoft and asking for help. The bucks just roll in... Yes, Microsoft should like XP, But I don't

Are you using NTFS format?

Sounds like your hard drive is failing/defective and that is
why you are getting errors and they increase.

Try www.pcpitstop.com for an on-line scan, works very well
with XP.

like the last guy said format the drive with ntfs (at command prompt, convert /fs:ntfs). also, delete the entire prefetch directory, and your \windows\temp directory as well. do you hear any strange noises from your hard drive, like it takes too much time seeking?
