After running diagnostic start-p in MSconfig, I lost my printer, cannot see
device manager, lost sound, lost anti-virus and cannot get back. I have made
every attempt I know to get these back, but with no success. If someone can
help, Please do...Thanks so much.

Hi Debie,

And if you put it back in normal mode?

You need to undo the changes you made in MSCONFIG.

I know, that was a bad, bad thing I did and needless to say, I will not do it
again!
Thanks for the reply however I called a tech at MS and got resovle, I had to
restart many things in the services within computer manager and I got all
back expect Norton and I am having a bad time with that...I've called norton
and tried uninstalling and reinstall and keep getting an error, bottom line I
cannot get my antivirus back on for some reason I cannot figure out....Any
suggestions?

Go to the Symantec site and do a search for RNAV {I think you still have
"bits" of NAV hanging around your system). Run it making sure you choose the
correct version.

Then

either re-install NAV {and if my assumption is correct it will re-install
now}

or download and install another AV product

yes tried that too, not working, even tried system removal utility and still
get same error, I even tried what norton suggest to run from hard drive, I
made a folder and put the contents of cd in it and tried to run from there
and still get the same error, it will not load no matter what I do. I need
help!
Thanks for your suggestions though. I cannot find RNAV so maybe you can
clarify that for me...

Symantec Home Page and then do a search for RNAV - hopefully it covers your
version.

I did exactly as you said and the RNAV is not recoginzed in the search field
at Symantec website. I have been emailing support from Norton for 6 days now
and have tried everything short of messing with my registry, which I am NOT
comfortable doing....Thanks for the support. Debie

You can get RNAV here if you have Norton AntiVirus 2003 or earlier..

I HAD Norton 2005, but that is what I am trying to get back, any antivirus
would do, but unforntunately my computer is not accepting anything. I did
manage a virus scan and come up with some spyware, but I have another program
called Xospy but doesn't seem to be removing the spyware cuz I just did a ful
scan and the spyware is still there. Like I said, short of changing things
in the registry, I have done it all! Keep the suggestions coming, somethings
gotta give...

The NAV2005 removal tool that you need is called SymNRT.exe
You'll find instruction on it's use , along with a link to it at :
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Once you've used, reinstall NAV 2005 and let us know if it worked.
Keep in mind that NAV 2005 has 1 or 2 issues with incorrectly configuring
it's Auto-Protect feature,
I can lead you through making sure it's configured correctly, if needed.

Thank you very much for the suggestion of the removal tool being SymNRT.exe
and I don't know what finally worked but I've got my 2005 back again.

Thanks again, Debie

congrats :)

Check your event viewer and make sure you have no error messages refering to
SAVScan, SAVRT, or SAVRTPEL.
If there are none you're install properly configured the auto-protect
feature.
