Need help w/XP issues

Using XP home, since I installed the latest XP update (which verifies you
have a valid license) and also checks other Office 2000 products as well, I
have had problems. Explorer shuts down, Outlook shuts down, Outlook has to
shut down- once today I had a system error (NT something) giving me one
minute to shut down... all with the opportunity to report the problem..
where can I look to find and reverse what may be going on. The last thing
the website updates shows that I installed malicious software, so I know
that can't be it....

Fixed... mem stick went bad - at the same time I d/l the latest active x
control... coincidence..
