Need help starting up in Safe Mode

Guest

I am running XP Home.
I have installed the Recovery Console.
When I press F8, I do not get an option to start in the Safe Mode (NUM Locks
Off or On).
Instead, I get the prompt;
C:/WINDOWS_
When I type HELP into the prompt I get a list of commands but there is not
anything that relates to SAFE MODE.
Can someone tell me if;
1. There is a command that I can type into the C:/WINDOWS_ prompt to get to
SAFE MODE?
2. If there is another way that I can get to SAFE MODE?

This request for help is coming from another computer but,
It is imperative that I boot up in SAFE MODE on my main computer because I
must remove a program that I had installed that freezes that system when it
is booting up.

Can someone please help?

Thanks,
Charles

Hi

Try using the F5 key to get into Safe Mode instead of the F8 key.

Thank you for the suggestion Will but that did not work.

I still get the message (C:WINDOWS_) which Windows installation would you
like to log into.

Is there anything else I can try?

Hi Charles,
for Windows XP home version all you should have to do is, as the system
boots up, keep pressing the F8 key. F5 only gets you into System Setup for
XP. It was the command for Windows 98, if I remember correctly. Anyway,
next scroll up via the up arrow key until you highlight the Safe Mode option
in the selection list. Once done, you should just select the Enter key.
Otherwise, you will probably need to supply more information if that does not
do it.
Good luck.
