Need Help Asap! XP Sp2 Problem

My friend finally decided to install XP SP2...she created a system restore
point beforehand. The download and install went fine. However, when she
rebooted the computer, she ran into a problem. It started to boot up
normally...the welcome screen, the windows xp screen, then it went to the
screen where it asks if she would like to enable Automatic updates. She
clicked yes, then clicked the next button, and then nothing....her screen has
been blue for the last 2 hours. It has not gone to the next step. The puter
itself does not seem to be frozen...the mouse/cursor moves freely and the
little light on the computer flickers occasionally, but I think 2 hours is
way too long to have the blue screen. What can she do? Would it cause any
harm for her to shut it off (via the power button) and restart it? Any
ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated....she's starting to panic
right about now, so the sooner we get some ideas the better sad.gif
Thank you

If she has one, hit the reset button to make it reboot or Ctrl/Alt/Del. If
that doesn't work, use the power off button. No, it won't hurt it.

Funny how people are attached to that familiar Windows sound when the
desktop appears ... and hate to lose it and are so happy when they get it
back. Glad it worked out.
