Need FULL version install of IE 6 and help UNinstalling older version

Melissa Clark

Hi,
I need help with uninstalling a previous version of IE
6.0 and need a full version of the IE 6.0 installation.

A virus, add-on application, or other bad thing has
altered my IE 6.0 so that I cannot UNinstall. When I run
IE 6.0, it supposedly works fine, but I can tell some
kind of spyware or something has altered its use because
the results that come up in a search are altered and
items are underlined in web pages, pop ups come up
sometimes okay and sometimes blank with errors on the
pages. I tried to REinstall IE 6.0 from the WinXP setup
disk and it didn't fix it because the bad files are still
there, overriding the good files. Is there any way to
blow away IE 6.0 and get a full version that I can
install from?

Thanks,
Melissa

I recommend that you remove the spyware first, as it
could conflict with a new installation and a new
installation will certainly not remove the spyware.
Download, install, *update* and run these two programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/ (Remove items
listed in red.)

Note the security recommendations.

To un-install IE: Control panel, add/remove programs
Select add/remove windows components, select Internet
Explorer.

Hi Melissa,

You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer from Windows XP. You can repair it instead.

First, try using Ad-Aware and remove the spyware from the PC. Next, run IEFIX available here:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/utils/IEFix.exe
This should fix up the hyperlinks problem.

If that does not solve the problem, you may continue with reinstalling Internet Explorer using this:
