Need freeware or affordable shareware to finalize CDs and DVDs please

I'm trying to get away from using NERO anymore. I found a program
called commandburner but it doesn't finalize discs. If I can find an
app to finalize the discs I burn, I'm good to go. Windows 98, please.

It looks like commandburner just does single session burns. ie, no
finalization necessary.

At any rate, if an application with a GUI is acceptable, DeepBurner is a
decent freeware disc burner.

you might want to try linux if you do take a look at k3b it does every
thing and more. and it will slap up win 98 and it's free.

If you DO go linux, and want to stay with your current hardware setup,
I'd suggest you look at an earlier version of Mandriva or Knoppix or
Fedora.

Personal experience shows that some of the other flavors of linux may be
nicer/more desirable for <reason> but that mandriva/knoppix/fedora
support a wider range of hardware and seem a bit easier to learn.
