Need for separate and discrete freeware newsgroups?

Boy .. I sure hope the regulars here don't take this the wrong way,
and begin a flame war.

ACF is a great place for discussion, but I wonder if there might not
be a need to construct a separate freeware group .. just for Linux?
Very often some nifty and intriguing news lead will direct attention to
a website, only to find that the subject dealt only with Linux.

Perhaps a viable answer might be as simple as suffixing the subject
line with .. MAC .. or LINUX for those minority subjects of no
interest to most.

It's not that difficult to establish a newgroup where there is a need,
and alt.comp.freeware.linux (or mac) just may be needed.

Thanks for courteous responses.

So make it.

That'd be handy.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Much as I like this group, it is mostly
for Windows software, and I'm making the transition to Linux, however
haltingly.

While we wait, here are a couple for Windowss to Linux places to look:
The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in
Linux
http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-lin-soft-en/table.shtml
Freshmeat:
http://freshmeat.net/
SourceForge:
http://sourceforge.net/
I wouldn't exactly call SourceForge a Minority.
When this group was founded Windows was the dominant OS and it still is.
But Linux and it's variants are true freeware and offer, I believe, a
greater resource of true freeware.
Does Gordon post 100% Windows? Are the posts in here !00% windows?
Please grow with the times. There is room for all.
Thank you for your time and my patience,

A Linux freeware group? Bit redundant isn't it? I thought *all*
Linux stuff was free. (Or shouldn't I believe quite all that those
evangelists tell me? ;-)

Cheers, Phred.

No, not all Linux software is freeware, though the vast majority of it is.
But this certainly doesn't preclude discussion, notices of updates or new
versions, links to reviews and tutorials, etc. For instance, I would
be extremely grateful if someone would point me to an acceptable Linux
replacement for Irfanview.

XnView has a Linux version.

XnView, ImageMagick, Electric Eyes. None are as good as Irfanview,
though XnView comes close.

How about, if it is not for Windows, the poster put the OS in the
subject line.

How about the poster puts the OS at the _start_ of the subject line
regardless of which OS (or OSes) it is for?

Cheers,
