OT- Comparison of freeware and WinDVD software

ms

I am getting a new computer built and the motherboard comes with a commercial
software (WinDVD) for playing, writing DVD's and ripping files from DVD'. I don't
know if this is commen software that others might be familiar with it.

I've been seeing on ACF recommendations for freeware to do this, which I would
normally use.

In this case WinDVD came with the motherboard, and can be installed if I want, so a
decision is coming up. I haven't yet gotten into working with DVD's.

I dislike installing anything unless I really need it, like CCleaner, Firefox,
Thunderbird, Winpatrol, etc.

Will the freeware now available do a good job or is it likely the commercial software
is better?

Maybe I haven't phrased the question exactly right, but hope you get the intent.

I thought WinDVD was just the player software Mike.
Or are you getting an Intervideo suite ?.

It's the suite, includes WinDVD 5 Platinum, WinDVD Creator 2 Platinum, WinRip 2.

You should be good to go Mike. At least they`ll all be compatible
with each other. (No fighting in the camp <g>.)

WinRip 2.

Just watchout, I thought I got the full version with my DVD player but
it turns out to be a crippled version which only reads stereo sound (so
no 5.1) and doesn't burn MPEG2. I hope you really got the full version.

Thanks to all. The old crapshoot, install, see if it's a keeper, if not uninstall,
and start registry cleaning.
