NAV 2004 Question

J

John

I'm currently running Norton AntiVirus 2002 on my 4 Windows based computers
(three desktops and one laptop). All four currently have legally paid NAV 2002
subscriptions. I am considering an "upgrade" to NAV 2004, but I have a few
questions:

If I purchase a retail version of NAV 2004 can I install it on all four of MY
computers?

What advantages (if any) are there with NAV 2004 vs NAV 2002?

For "best results", should I uninstall NAV 2002 before installing NAV 2004?

Should I use the Windows uninstaller (Windows 98 SE) or should I use the Norton
uninstaller that comes with NAV 2002?

Thanks,
John

Don't. It's not worth your while (see comments below)

I believe with NAV 2004 you can't install it on more than one machine
under a single license. With NAV 2002, although the license restricts
the use to a single computer, there isn't any mechanism to enforce that.
The honor system, you know?

NAV 2004 does have Spyware and Spam detection, however, it also has
considerably more bloat. Almost on a daily basis, you can read posts at
various NG's complaining about the tax NAV 2004 places on system
resources. I can't imagine a single compelling reason why one would move
from NAV 2002 (the last decent commercial version of Symantec's AV) to
NAV 2004, unless you're a masochist ;). You can get Spyware protection
for free, if you look. Spend your money on a good email filtering
program and Spam won't be an issue ever again.

For "best results" refrain from installing NAV 2004 at all cost.
Should I use the Windows uninstaller (Windows 98 SE) or should I use the Norton

Keep NAV 2002. You won't be sorry. If your money is burning a hole in
your wallet, email me. I'll give you my address and you can send me your
money. Actually, that will bring you more joy than pissing it away on
NAV 2004.

NAV2004 only allows you to install on one PC through it's activiation
mechnaism. NAV2004 Pro allows two PC's, I believe.

Real time scanning of compressed files and the spyware/adware detections are
the biggest, though the latter you can get free with SpyBot and AdAware.

Up to you. I've done both with no problems.

Either mehtod generally works fine, but I'd try using NAV2002's uninstaller
first. If you have problems uninstalling, Symantec has a utility on their
site Rnav that will do a thorough uninstall of NAV 2000-2003.

Optikl,

Thank you VERY MUCH for your honesty. I love the way you got your message
across in your reply below. I'll take your advice and keep NAV 2002 until
Symantec stops offering me the annual renewal.

Regards,
John
