Naming Objects

Im creating a presentation w/ animation. I have several text boxes that when
I animate are named "rectangle 1, 2, 3". Is there a way to change the name of
these objects so I know which text box is which?

In PowerPoint up until the new release of PPT 2007, you could not. In 07
you can.

In PowerPoint 2007, as Bill says, you can. On the Home tab, click the Select
button in the Editng group and choose Selection Pane. There you'll see your
objects and can rename them.

In PowerPoint 2002/2003, you can figure out which object is which by
assigning any object an animation effect. It will then appear in the Custom
Animation pane, selected, so you can see its name (Ovale 3, for example).
Then you can remove the animation and do whatever you want with it. I discuss
this method at the bottom of one of my tips at:
http://www.ellenfinkelstein.com/powerpoint_tip_create_popup_windows.html,
because it drove me crazy, too.

If you add text to an object it will show in the animation pane - the text
can be same colour as background (ie invisible)

If you use the "select multiple objects tool" (you'll need to add it throgh
Tools > customize and add a web comment to the shape (in format > autoshape >
web tab) the comment will show in this tool (not in the animation pane though)
