SmartArt Animation

I'm using PPT 2007 with SmartArt object "Basic Chevron Process". I.e.,

---text 1--- ---text 2--- ...
/ / / /

When I choose Appearance by Click within Animation for "text 1", the
Animation is applied to both "text 1" and "text 2". Animation only
recognizes both "text 1" and "text 2" as 1 object. Is there a way to
give each text a separate animation? I.e., make them appear in sequence
by click?

Have you tried double clicking the animation in the custum animation
taskpane, on the SmartArt animation tab, click the listarrow and choose one
by one?
