Naming Information Cannot be located

John

Hi,

When I try to run Active Directory Users and Computers at the console of our
Domain Controller, I get the following message:
Naming information cannot be located. Server is not operational.

I can run AD Users and Computers on a second Domain controller which I
recently installed as a backup. I also demoted a Domain controller which was
functioning as the backup but had to be removed because it was getting too
old to be reliable.

Could there be something in removing one and creating the other which could
have caused the error I'm now seeing?

Thanks,

John

First thing to check is DNS. Try pointing all of you DC's at the same DNS
server. Then stop and start the Netlogon service and the DNS Clients service
on each DC.
