Mysterious screen during startup

Hello,

Does anyone recognise this screen:

I've not come across it before and can't find anything in the event
log that would suggest what it means. It's a bit like the disk checker
screen, only different! The dots kept on filling up the screen for
about 30 mins before in continued to boot as normal. It's done it a
few times now. Any suggestions?

Looks like a bootup virus checker to me. 30 minutes seems excessive though.
Have you tried hitting Escape when it happens?

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have a virus checker installed (yes
I do know what I'm doing!). I tried escape, ctrl-c, ctrl-alt-del, and
various other combinations that I could think of.

Any other suggestions?

Could it have anything to do with this in my event log:

Windows saved user %1 registry while an application or service was
still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's
registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is
no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try
configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or
NetworkService account.
