Changing the 'resolution' of the Black WinXP Startup Screen

Hello All,

I have a quick question, and hopefully one of the experts out there can
help...

How can you change the resolution of the Black Startup screen? The one
BEFORE the Blue User Login screen. Usually, when starting up, it is kinda
large and fills most of the screen. After installing Service Pack 2, when
the computer restared, the logo was much smaller and seemed to be of a
higher resolution. The text "Loading Windows" was also smaller and cleaner
looking.

Now, however, I am back to the old, lower resolution picture. I would REALLY
like to have the better looking one!

Any suggestions or recommendations are much appreciated...

If you're running a LCD monitor, this is
handled in the "stretch to fit screen" modes
accessed on the monitor setup menus.

If you're running a CRT, never mind...

I'm using a regular monitor, so I guess it doesn't apply in my case...I
forgot to mention that in my original post.

OK, sometimes the "full screen in DOS" option
is in your system BIOS...try that.

Also, what may have happened is that your custom screen size
setting depending on what res. you're running the CRT
at may have gotten erased (this is held in the CRT NVRAM,
so Windows has nothing to do with it).

If you're really fast at setting it, try shrinking the screen
size whild the logo screen is displayed and saving the settings
on your CRT.

At that stage it is using basic VGA drivers, the proper ones are not
loaded until after the splash has gone.

If this is a laptop, there is likely to be a hardware setting to expand
640x480 to fill the screen; check its manual

Thanks for all of the help, everyone...

I think this may have something to do with basic drivers. I just reformatted
and reinstalled WinXP Pro on a friends computer, and I noticed the same
effect on his computer.

After the install but before the "Welcome to windows XP" introduction (The
one with the blue swirl - "I'll be your guide...") he had the small, high
resolution Black Booting Screen. After rebooting again, it went to the
normal, Low res Black Booting Screen. He has a regular monitor, and not an
LCD panel.

I guess since this screen is before the actual operating system starts, it
would be hard to change.
