MyIE2 is now Maxthon

Eric

I'm waiting too. If he can find one or 2 good features Maxthon lacks
without giving up any that Maxthon has, I'll switch in a heartbeat. I
will not switch because of paranoia or a dislike for MS.

Bob

I'm still waiting myself. I use Firefox and MYIE2(Maxthon) about 50% each
and love them both. But I noticed that all the IE haters have yet to
mention a "feature" that firefox has (extension or not) that MYIE2 doesn't.

Thanks,

Eric

Understood, I was wondering about the missing features (and still am after
Aaron's post), because I tried Firefox, found it slow on my old and slow
sytem and never could get it configured like MyIE2, which does everything I
want, and does it the way I want it. Personally I don't care about it being
based on IE. I keep far away from online-banking, as I don't trust that
regardless what browser used. You do care about it being based on IE, fair
enough, we're both happy with our browsers I guess.
I'd have stuck with Opera except for the problem with my wifes online
banking wanting IE, Netscape 4.78 based browser. Would appear that
Opera doesn't spoof the browser ID well enough but Firefox works OK.

Many Maxthon users are hoping it will go stand-alone. That would be nice.
So in fact Maxthon is actually 32.3MB. You can remove IE and Windows
still works...www.litepc.com

IE is not part of the OS as decided in a court of law some years ago.

Security. Do a search on Google for Internet Explorer security alert
and do the same for Firefox.

Still looking for examples and facts. ActiveX and scripting disabled here.
FYI, never encountered any problems here. Googling brings up realy technical
stories about security. I'm a simple home-user. I would realy like someone
to explain to me what could happen to me. Nothing on my system is realy
private, I have my spyware-condom on in the form of
Spywareblaster/Spywareguard/Ad-Aware/Spybot S&D. What problems do I have ? I
have asked this question before, here and on security-forums, and no-one
seemed to be able to tell me what I should worry about. I don't do online
banking (I realy like to sign with ink before my money dissapears). And I'm
not trying to be a PITA. I just would like to know: why should I worry?

Actually, I'm not, but I would like to hear why I should.
Everybody directly responding to this question I asked ( again and again)
says that I have nothing to worry about. Nobody ever responded to this
question with a: you-shouldn't-use-that-because-etc. Only with answers like:
IE sucks. Bill Gates is a w*nker.Use (insert alternative browser) or you're
a dumb ass.
Again: no online banking, scripting and activeX disabled, a couple of
spyware-condoms on, no porn (anymore....), no warez. Wazzup ?

Alright already! I'm growing weary of anti-MS crusaders telling me
about IE's horrible, life-threatening vulnerabilities. Tell some child
that gets viruses and hacks. I've already heard it for the 10,000th
time.

How about the fact that the average age for seeing porn is 8? And it's IE
with it's popup windows that makes all this possible?

Because the IE core is compromised. What about that do you not "get?"

Then your system is the problem.

Great solution: buy a new system. Some of us don't have the euro's/dollars
to buy new hardware.
IMHO 8-years old should be playing with toys, preferably outdoors in the
fresh air, I know I'm gonna keep mine aay from a pc for as long as possible.
For the popups, tht's why I use MyIE2, great popupfilter included.

You'll never get a straight answer, and this will continue no matter
how high up the security education curve you go.

First you get told to get an AV app, and not to rely on it, then you
need a firewall, but not the one you chose; so you get a better one
only to find yourself in the middle of a techie debate as to whether
or not app control is a good thing. Then you get told that software
firewalls are crap anyway and you need an old 486 in the way of the
scary internet.
At some time in all of this you get told to change your browser,
because it is, er, sending your secrets to the Russians. (LOL).
Then you get told you must have all the MS security patches and
windows updates. At this point you hope to relax a bit only to be told
that 98 is wholly insecure anyway and to 'upgrade' to XP. Then you get
told you have to customise XP to hell and back because a 'virgin XP
machine connecting to the internet straight from the shop will be
toast in a few days' (actual quote). So you tweak XP till it is
'secure' then you need the SP's. :-(
Sitting back, admiring your newfound security, you get told that
Windows is an insecure environment and you need Linux running
something called IP chains.
Now you are truly secure in a nice little fortress, putting a brave
face on the fact that none of your favourite programs work.

And some prat comes along and tells you that any computer connected to
the internet or a LAN is inherently insecure.

Oh no !? The Russians have my old porn ? Are they gonna tell my woman about
that movie with the shaving cream ? What ? Oh no, not mum and dad ! ;)

I know you're probably right, but I was hoping that maybe here,
someone....etc.
And most likely there's gonna be another reaction soon from someone who
didn't see all posts, telling me about my bank-account being used to support
terrorism. And I must say, as time without a straight answer goes by, I'm
feeling safer and safer. Which probably will bring up a post about how
stupid that is, which brings up a post asking : why ?, etc.
Sigh.....Happy browsing everyone !

I don't use AV monitoring on this machine, because I prefer to use my
limited resources for other stuff. I only scan files that I think
might be dodgy. And I haven't updated my AV software for weeks...

Security comes in shades of grey; the only secure puter is one that is
switched off with all the wires removed. In any security discussion
there will be single issue fanatics with loud voices.
