My website "does not exist"

D

Donald MacLean

For years I have maintained my website with FP, swapping my pc every 2 yrs
and updating FP as far as FP2002. Just got a new pc, installed and
activated FP on it and copied 'My Web' files from old pc.

Editing in FP on new pc seems normal, but when I try to publish I get error
msge "www.maclean.org does not exist"!

I can publish as usual from the old pc (both are on domestic network).

What am I doing wrong?

Donald.

A better approach, if the remote server has the FP extensions would be to open the live/remote site
in FP from the new machine and then publish it to My Webs.

When publishing make sure the you are using File Menu | Publish Web / Site and enter the destination
as http://www.maclean.org

Thanks, Thomas.
...if the remote server has the FP extensions ...
It has.
open the live/remote site in FP
How? (The only way I could see to do that was to "Import" - which I'd
tried.)

I'm doing the publish as you say.

Create a new folder on your HD under your C:\

File Menu | Open Web / Site
Enter http://www.maclean.org
Enter your login info
Click Ok
Click Open

Once the site is open use
File Menu | Publish Web / Site
browser to the new folder your created
Click Ok .. etc.

If prompted to let FP convert the folder to a web and add files, click Ok.

Create a new folder on your HD under your C:\
Empty, presumably? Called what?
File Menu | Open Web
(In FP, presumably) The "Open Web" screen asks for "web name" ...
When I do that I get error msge "This folder isn't accessible ... (forward
slashes unacceptable)"

That's as far as I get.
?

(Thanks for your patience, Thomas.)

Empty yes, name with single word, whatever you want.

Yes in FP.

?

Ask your host to run a check on the extensions.

Open you online web in FP
(In IE browse to the home page and use File Edit w/ FP and log in)
Then Publish All to a new folder on your new PC (Say C:\wwwMaclean)
Then open you new disc based web in FP

Thanks, Stefan. (I'm getting there!)
(In IE browse to the home page and use File Edit w/ FP ...

Ah, that's how (I could find no way of opening a remote website directly in
FP).
... and log in.

Nope - no login requested. FP displays the single Home Page under a
"Default Page" tab (no different after Refresh), and no other pages are
loaded.
Then Publish All to a new folder ...

Nope ... "Publish web..." is greyed-out.

Donald.

Have your host repair reinstall the FP SE and check permissions
- no login means no FP SE
