My Upgrade

I have upgraded from me to Windows XP, since doing this
My Norton anti-virus and firewall is not operating
properly. I now realize that I should have un-installed
both before I Upgraded.
I now can not un-install the said software, to
re-install, I get the error message 1606 please somebody
HELP!!
