It sounds like an extension corrupted it.
Try this:
Uninstall it again
After that is done, delete this folder
C:\Documents and Settings\mike\Application Data\Thunderbird\
(where mike is your username on your computer)

Now try reinstalling it. (You will need to re-enter your settings)

Well, then it's probably one of the extensions that messes things
up. The usual plan for these situations:

(1) Start Thunderbird in "safe mode", which means that it won't
load any extensions. For instructions on this, see:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode_(Firefox)

In safe mode, you can start uninstalling extensions. Remove them
all together, or one by one, restart TBird each time, if you want
to find the extension that causes the problems.

(2) If that doesn't work, simply make a new, clean user profile.
Do *NOT* delete your old profile (as another poster suggested) if
you want to keep your mail. It is possible to copy the email
archive files to your new profile afterwards.
To make a new profile, see this page:

http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/profile

You basically start "thunderbird.exe -profilemanager" to get an
interface for managing your profiles.

Well, good luck with all that,

Wald
