Deleting & archiving Thunderbird mail & news messages

I am relatively new to Thunderbird 1.5 (just getting started). There
does not seem to be a way to delete a news message or news thread like
you can do in Outlook Express. In Thunderbird, you can only delete mail
messages and threads. The only news messages you can delete are posts
you sent yourself. You can't delete messages from others. There also
does not seem to be any archive capability. Some extensions can help
with this, but I'm not sure I have the right ones or that they're
configured right. I wanted to ask here first before asking anywhere
else, since this group is the one that introduced me to Thunderbird.

Please tell me some of the extensions that can archive mail and/or news
in Thunderbird 1.5. Most of the ones I found work only for mail and not
for news. Are there any extensions to archive or delete Thunderbird news
messages? Here are the ones I looked at so far. Some of them had to have
the max version changed to be compatible with TB 1.5.

Archive Tools 0.0.3
Buttons! 0.5.1
GMailUI 0.4
MoreButtonsPlus (More Button Plus) 0.3

For mail, you can use the Buttons! extension, but it does not work for
news. You can only select mail folders, not news. Not really sure about
the GMailUI extension or the Archive Tools extension. I have no
documentation on Archive Tools, and its homepage no longer carries that
extension. In GMailUI, I named the archive folder Archive and created a
folder called Archive in Local Folders.

If there are mozilla newsgroups for end users, I need to know how to set
up the news server in Thunderbird and if there is a username or password
needed. Thanks.

The simplest way to archive new group messages in TB is to archive them
in a dedicated subfolder in Local Folders. This obliges you to filter
the massive influx of emails on the TB news group.

You can archive Mozilla or TB emails with MozBackup, see
http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

"MozBackup is a simple utility for creating backups of Mozilla Firefox,
Mozilla Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, Mozilla Suite and Netscape profiles.

It allows you to backup and restore bookmarks, mail, contacts, history,
extensions, cache etc.

MozBackup is compatible with:

* Firefox 1.0 - 1.5.0.x
* Thunderbird 1.0 - 1.5.0.x
* SeaMonkey 1.0a - 1.0.x
* Mozilla Suite 1.7 - 1.7.x
* Netscape 7.x.

This program is freeware and works on Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003."

The standard enduser news group for Thunderbird is at
mozilla.support.thunderbird . The mail server is news.mozilla.org.
Several TB champs provide help in this group.

There is a secure news server for Mozilla users which can be accessed
from the http://www.mozilla.org/support/#forums address. You need to
be able to set up a secure news client which I'm sure is explained on
that site.
