my sound driver has all the updates but..

heres my problem, i updated the driver for my mobos intergrated sound card but when i go into the sound and audio properties it says no audio device. also the status of my realtek ac'97 audio says.. status: driver has been enabled but has not been started. how do i get this thing to work?!
