hi all!

My PC just keeps reloading and it of course has me NUTS!! It was fine
until 2 days ago and then we had a tremendous heatwave but I dont think it
was that or related but I thought Id mention it anyway. I can work from a
disk or the command prompt but when I try to use it normally it will load and
then die without an error message or anything, my startup programs will load
and then in maybe 30-40 secs it will just die and reload and so I reinstalled
it again but I am getting the same thing again??
Theres no beeping like when a motherboard goes or abything and I was
thinking about how if the voltage is off it will shut down but if it was
power related I couldnt use the Prompt all day without a problem right?

Is there a way to test this or anything I can do to find out whats wrong I
need it for work and I cant afford a new one right now......... PLEASE HELP!!

You write "I reinstalled it again". Are you saying you re-installed
Windows? Was this a clean installation onto a formatted disk
or an installation over the top of the existing installation?

I had a similar thing happen to me recently. The problem was that
something in the startup was causing it to reboot within a minute of
logging in. I solved the problem by booting into Safe Mode (which
didn't reboot automatically). Then Start/Run, enter "msconfig" and
then on the startup tab, start unchecking things. One process to
narrow it down is to uncheck half of them and reboot normally. If the
problem goes away, it was in that half, and repeat the process. If it
still has the problem, reboot into save mode, recheck the ones you
unchecked and uncheck the others, then reboot normally, and repeat.

OTOH, it may be better to uncheck everything, reboot, see if the
problem goes away, and then add them back one at the time until the
problem reappears.

Keep a record of everything that was checked and the names of the ones
you unchecked or checked.

Time to crack open the case. Inspect for bulging or leaking capicitors,
and also check that all the fans are running properly. Clean out the
dust while you're there.

I second this.
