My No.1 Annoyance with Vista, slow to recognize other PC's on LAN

Why is so slow ? Once they lock on to each other, everything is fine,
but this can take hours.

Are there any tweaks available, I can't believe peer-to-peer
commuication on a LAN is so slow. Microsoft should be ashamed.

Solution: download Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com/ Burn it to a CD.
Change your boot sequence to boot from the CD first. Insert the Ubuntu
CD. Follow the very easy instructions. When Ubuntu is installed, open
Firefox and go to the support pages for any help you may need or email
me and I'll be happy to help you.

You really are a ****tard. Because a connection on the LAN is slow, you
tell him to ditch what he has and install Ubuntu? What useless information.
You should be taken behind the barn, removed from the ass of your Sheep, and
shot.

Nobody needs to use Ubuntu as it is a pile of crap. Remember, Ubuntu is
FREE and NOBODY wants it. Ubuntu has less than one percent of the desktop
and after all these years, people would rather pay for Microsoft than use an
inferior OS. That is a FACT.

******Whatever comes out of the box with each operating system. I don't
think that's an issue because when I shutdown the Win98 PC it's just two
Vista machines that can't find each other.
*****WORKGROUP, all three machines the same

In the Network and Sharing Center, is the network set to Private, and
Network discovery turned on?

Absolutely, both Vistas set to Private & Network Discovery is on.

What I find really odd is one minute you can see all PC,s and a minute
later, one or two are missing. I should mention that I can ping each
computer from any other, while they are visible in the network folder but as
soon as they are no longer visible they can't be pinged either.

Before you ask, I get the same behaviour with the Firewalls on both Vista
machines turned off.

Well douche bag, you've been waiting for two years to get one? They are
on the frikin' web site. You should have looked harder. Google is your
friend. Look into it.

Not very good at reading, are you psycho? They have still not managed to
get them produced, even though it was on the TV programme nearly three years
ago.

Hi Tyro,

You may be awful rough around the edges, but I'm a monkey's uncle.

In desperation I swapped in a Linksys router for the D-Link and damned if I
couldn't see every PC on the LAN within seconds. None of D-Link's routers
could do it.

The Linksys router seems to be the better router for LAN networking !

Thanks for the tip. I've been at this problem for months and was ready to
give up.

Glad it worked out for you. I've never had any problem with my Linksys
WRT54G router. I leave it turned on, along with my modem, 24/7.

Linksys is a product of Cisco Systems, whom many regard as the best for
networking.

Tyro

Linksys is an independent asset Cisco purchased to get into the
consumer market. Linksys products don't compare to Cisco's own
products in any way, shape, or form.
