Why is Notepad so slow in Vista?

On my system (an AMD 64 3200+ with 1 GB of RAM) it takes Notepad a full 9
seconds to launch. Why so slow? Word 2007 launches in about half that
time. Of course, everything in Vista runs much slower than it did in XP,
but it seems odd that a simple little program like Notepad would be so slow.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Notepad lauches normally on vista here.... of course as you said everything
IS slower in vista...
I cant imagine why that would happen though... I have never seen notpad
being slow.. ever...

can you repeat what you said please so everyone can hear it clearly?

Boy oh boy, anything anybody says about Vista being slower than XP you just
jump on it like "Cheap on a Suit". This is the Memorial Day weekend, go
outside, keep your computer off, enjoy the sunshine (depending on where you
live) and give it a rest for a few days.

Lets make a deal... post every day that vista is slow as a snail for 3 days,
and I will go for a trip.
But Ill be watching via wireless laptop.. so dont squeeze in a "I love
vista" post because I will see it.

I know Vista is slower than XP, and most people should figure that out. I'm
not delusional, and I like the truth being told, but how many times can you
repeat the same thing before people just throw up their arms and totally
ignore your message? Believe me, I'm not a Vista lover, I enjoy messing
around with Vista on my test box, leaving my "real work" to XP because I
know it is dependable.

I am going to enjoy my Memorial Day weekend and the furthest thing from my
mind will be computers!

That happend to me for about 3 days. When I ran a Windows update, all of a
sudden Notepad started working again

Thanks for the suggestion. Taking your advice, I ran Windows Update. And
suddenly Notepad launches briskly again. Why this should fix the problem is
a mystery to me. Obviously Windows Vista has some very odd plumbing.

Hi Michael,

Notepad is running just fine here, but I have the same problem with another
MS program : Calculator+
A Windows update or Microsoft update does not help in my case though.
