My Network Places - Passwords

I added an ftp site to 'My Network Places' that required a user name and
password to login. I selected 'remember password' and now find that I
can delete the site and re add it without having to re enter the
password.

The password doesn't appear in 'Mangage my network passwords'. How do I
get rid of the stored password after deleting the associated ftp site?

Thanks

The FTP password is stored in the Protected Storage area. Try this to remove the FTP info & pwd:

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider\<SID for your Account>

Assign yourselves Full Permission for this key, and sub-keys.

Locate the appropriate sub-key which contains the MS IE FTP Passwords.

Hint: Look for the "MS IE FTP Passwords" Display String value in the right-pane for each sub-key.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider\<SID>\Data\5e7e8100-9138-11d1-945a-00c04fc308ff\00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

One of the sub-keys contain th ethe FTP site account information (you can easily locate that)

Once you identity the appropriate entry, backup the key to a REG file and delete the key.

Undo the Permissions back to default.

Control Panel > User Accounts > Pick an account to change (select your
account) > top left pane (related tasks) select 'Manage my network passwords
at this point hopefully your password in question will appear > click
Remove.

I get this far but don't find any subkeys???

Look here > www.winxp.flyer.co.uk/regedit.gif

Because you did not grant Full access for that key for your user account. Once you do it, the sub-keys will be displayed.

Ah... but you failed to inform me that I'd have to exit and re enter
regedit (or maybe refresh the view) for the subkeys to appear.

Found them now.

Thanks

Of course, that's understood. Thought that need not be explained.
