My monitor doesn't turn off automatically

I set the screen saver to 5 min and the monitor to 10 min, at 5 min the
screen saver kicks in, but at 10 min, instead of the monitor turning off, the
screen saver turns off, and the monitor goes to the screen I was watching
before, I'm a newbie with computers, what I'm doing wrong? I have windows xp
media center edition 2005. Thanks in advance.
