Display Properties/Screen Saver

R

Rhiannon

I am reposting this under a different title.

I had my display settings set to shut my monitor off after 45 mins. we got
a new one at Christmas and I notice that it doesn't seem to work any more
(to be honest I don't remember off hand if it was working that way on the
other one). One thing it DOES do (that it didn't with the other monitor)
is after the screen saver is on, it will automatically turn the screen back
on (at the time when it was SUPPOSE to shut it off..screen comes back on),
which stays on for the 2 mins (which is what I have it set to) before the
screen saver activates,

Why won't the screen saver just stay on and the monitor just shut down.

Didn't you post this earlier - though I see there have been no replies
so far? The posters in this newsgroup are all volunteers from around
the world. It can take 24 hrs or more for the right person to see your
message and respond. You need to be patient. If you haven't had a
response in several days then repost indicating in the title that it's a
second post. And have you searched for possible resolutions using google?

yes that was me who posted twice. I thought perhaps a better explanation
of in the subject area may prompt a reply a bit sooner. I d/l more
messages and did finally find someone who had similar trouble....the posted
solution was if it was a optical/wireless mouse to put it up side down as
they could be more sensitive or that there is a background program
running....

I will try the upside mouse thing tonight.... I hope that someone else may
response and have another option/solution though.

sorry to have posted twice.

happy new year

Since I didn't get any help regarding this subject (on the two different
posts I made) I thought I'd go ahead a play with settings in the Power
Options. I found one that for some reason seems to work....I have it set
for 15 mins. then shut down the monitor and for today, this has worked.

I have a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. I thought (based on reading
here in the newsgroup) that it may be a sensitivity to the mouse, but I
guess not. For whatever reason, it works at the 15mins. point, but no
others.

Yes it's me again....I'm beginning to feel as if I am replying to myself
here. Feel pretty stupid now as here I thought I managed to fix my power
option monitor shut down and NOPE, sure didn't. LOL........I had
forgotten I had set the screen saver to NONE/BLANK.........see, pretty
stupid. So at any rate, still need help!!

I had answered this for someone else. Perhaps you missed it.

In your screensaver screen, there is the Power button.

I set all the options to NEVER turn off. Neither the
computer, nor the hard drives, nor the screen ever turns
off.

THEN, when all those are set,

I go back to the screen saver and set it (per screen
saver-- with each screen saver you load, you must reset this
option)

I go to the screensaver screen and select my screen saver,
THEN set it for how long I want the computer to go without
input (mouse or keyboard) before the computer turns on the
screensaver.

While you may think your monitor is off, if your logic is
working, if the monitor were off, you wouldn't see the
screensaver.

How you see your screensaver is that the monitor is on, but
the screensaver has "turned it off".

Also note that MANY screen savers are unstable. I have a
dozen that are cranky. I'd not bother but I enjoy looking at
them. Point being, you will likely have to reset ALL the
above settings every time you change screen savers.

Also bear in mind that should you crash out-- or should you
grow impatient with your computer apparently "hanging", and
you hit "Reset", all those settings you set several
hours/days ago are LOST, and you will have to go back and
reset them.

thank you for your reply....I'm not quite sure I followed your last sentence
completely "How you see your screensaver is that the monitor is on, but
the screensaver has "turned it off". I can tell when the monitor has
gone into 'sleep/off' mode and that is by the LED light turning yellow vs.
the normal green when it's on and I am using it.

from what I understood (and what used to occur with my settings) is after
the set time of no use/input, the screen saver turns on......then in my
power option settings I have it set for 15 mins to then turn off the
monitor. As I understand it, that would shut off the screen saver too?
yes? As my screen at that time used to just go 'blank'.

Well now it seems as though with the screen saver running, it never shuts
off (the monitor) the screen saver just runs and runs. If on Power Savings
I have selected a specific time for the monitor to shut off(IE. 15mins), it
does brieftly turn off (Like for 3 seconds) then the desktop comes back
on.....and the cycle continues.

Only thing that really does seem to work right now, is the blank/none option
under screen saver, and at the interval selected it IS shutting the monitor
down...so I will just leave it at that.
