I run Windows 2000 Professional 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4.
My dial-up internet connection (AT&T Worldnet 56K) has the annoying habit of
spontaneously shutting off. Often, after it spontaneously shuts off, when I
try to reconnect it will not do so until after I turn off my PC and reboot.
Merely logging off does not help.
After I reboot I am usually good for another few Internet sessions but then
inevitably I am spontaneously shut out of the Internet again and I have to
reboot for the sake of re-initializing something about my dial-up
connection.
I recently replaced my modem and this had no effect on the problem, hence my
suspicion that my OS is at fault and not the modem or driver. Also, when I
last updated my OS to Service Pack 4, this spontaneous disconnect problem
got noticably WORSE and not better.
I have tried to figure this out and explored IRQs in my system but my system
reports no device conflicts.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!!
