Hi,

It could still be due to overheating, a fan switch may be faulty. Sometimes
it works, sometimes it doesn't. Laptops try to conserve power and, unlike
desktops, only power fans on when tolerances approach their limits. A faulty
fan switch may work at some points and not at others. When it doesn't work,
the system shuts down to protect itself from damage. Reinitialize the
circuitry and the switch works ok for a while again.

If it's a software cause, and it's not bluescreening, then the shutdown
should be logged and the cause will be listed in the event viewer. An
overheating condition where the system is shut down to protect it from
damage will not be logged, it would only show a startup message in the event
viewer about the system shutting down unexpectedly.
