My IE Seems To Be Out Of My Control

When I first turn on computer or reboot, IE automatically comes up and I
cannot find anything in startup in msconfig or ini files or startup folders
that would tell it to do that. Then it seems I don't have complete control
over my IE. I get lots of popups and it keeps resetting my security settings
to a higher level. Eventually it hangs and I cannot even use the
taskmanager. I use Adaware regularly and delete bad things that show up in
hijackthis. Somehow this will not go away. Please any ideas? I have the
very latest version of IE and XP pro with SP1.

download update and run both microsoft antispyware and
spybot search and destroy ,you dont mention an antivirus
if you have known download install update and run the
free avg7 also scan on housecall.antivirus.com and
pandasoftware.com

download and install service pack2 and the rest of the
latest critical updates for xp.

who is your isp and do you have cable dsl dialup? home
network?

try opening up in a clean boot and safe mode with
networking and a new user account and report the results.

if you update to sp2 the windows firewall will be on by
default, you also dont mention a firewall are you using
windows or a third party firewall if not download and
install the free version of zone alarm.
