My IE 6 doesn't let me open a NEW window

D

Dan P.

Whenever I try to open a new window or a new window opens
up automatically in IE6, all of the other pages in IE 6
close. I can only have 1 IE page open. It doesn't allow
me to have more than 1 page for some reason. I have even
tried to re-install windows XP twice, but that didn't help.
And I've even tried to re-install IE 6, but the problem is
still there. Any suggestions?

Thx,

Dan

Sorry, this isn't an answer!
But I happened to notice this question, and I logged on to
ask about the exact same problem. I'm also using XP, and
I'm not very experienced with it, as it's my new work
computer.
I also had this problem awhile back on my home computer
running on Win98. I did find a way to stop it, but I don't
know exactly what I did. Basically I went into my control
panel and started uninstalling unused programs a few at a
time, until eventually one of the times I restarted, the
problem was gone. You might want to try that as a start?

Hi Dan and Bonnie - First, close all instances of IE, the go to Cntl
Panel Internet Options|Advanced and uncheck "Reuse windows for
launching shortcuts". See if that fixes it for you. If not, then post
back (in this same thread, please), and we can try some other things.

Tried it, didn't work...
I noticed that my computer at home (that no longer has
this problem) actually had the reuse windows box checked,
yet it never seems to reuse them...

jim-
I tried the solution you gave about unchecking the box,
but when I did, nothing changed. Do you know of any other
possible solutions? My computer just started acting screwy
with popups and new windows 2 days ago, i've visited the
site: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679 for help
with this particular problem, but to no avail; nothing
worked for me there either :(
