my file|open lists files like music?

When opening an existing WORD or EXCEL file, it shows columns like I'm in
iTUNES..song, genre, album instead of file, date, size?
 
Sounds like you're looking in the "My Music" folder or a folder within it.
Navigate to a standard folder & the captions may update accordingly... and
don't save your Word & Excel files in a music folder:-)

But it isn't entirely your fault - Windows is a little sluggish in updating
the captions when you navigate away from or back to a music folder. Use the
Views button in the dialog window to switch to List or Icons, then switch
back to Details. That will force Windows to redraw the captions according to
the type of folder you're in at the time.
