My e-mail to 300 people came back with "452 too many recipients"

I just set-up Outlook 2003 to send e-mails to mailing list of approx. 300.
My e-mail came back from most of the recipients with "452 too many
recipients". Does anyone know what this means or what I need to do
different. I listed all the recipients as bcc. Thanks for your help.
 
Sounds like your mail server may have bounced the item. Can you try sending
multiple copies to smaller groups of recipients?
