This one has been discussed here before but I didn't take notes. I have a
customer whose My Documents folder opens when she first starts Windows. Her
daughter, who is a non administrative user, has a folder called "Mary"
which always comes up when *she* logs on. It's a legit folder that she made
herself. I've had her run NAV, AdAware, and SpyBot all in safe mode and
after updating all definitions. Each app found a bit of something and got
rid of it, but the problem still persists. I had her check the registry
location that Kelly pointed out on her site... nothing there. Another thing
that may be helpful... her name did not show up when she booted up in Safe
Mode, so she logged in as Administrator, and the My Documents folder also
came up in Safe Mode as administrator.
The only other thing that may be mentionable is that she tried running
Spybot again in normal mode, and it locked up on "creating a restore
point". I had previously had her turn system restore off but she had turned
it back on again when this happened. That probably isn't related anyway.
So today or tomorrow I will be going to her place to see if I can fix
the problem. Anyone have any pointers?
Service Pack 2 is installed, but didn't coincide with the problem.
