my pc crashed and i had to reinstall xp pro. i need to get
into the old my docs folder but it won't let me. i have
tried to reset folder options but i have not got in. i
need the data in this folder as it is all my personal
pictures etc. i do not want to lose the data as it is not
replaceable. can anyone help. i now have a new
installation of xp pro but the old mydocs folder is still
there i just can not get into it. please please help me.

You have to take ownership for the subfolder tree, right click on the folder look for the security tab, click advanced, click take ownership. i'm not sure if thats the rights order because i'm not behind a xp desktop

Hi,

if you haven't used encryption (EFS), then you must take ownership of your
files and folders.
