My Documents won't expand in windows explorer

Recently, when I double click on the My Documents folder, it won't
expand in the left "Folders" pane. I have numerous folders under My
Documents and in order to expand it, I have to first double click on a
folder that *does* show up in the right pane, and then the plus sign
will appear in front of My Documents, and then I can click on the plus
sign on the My Documents folder to expand the view to reveal all
folders under it.


This used to work some time ago, but I'm not sure what happened to
crap this out.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
clicking on the folders button doesn't help. i have a left pane, but
"my documents" won't expand when i click on it. or double click on it.
the only way i can get it to expand is by double clicking on one of
it's folders that is displayed in the right pane. that creates the
plus sign next to the my documents folder. and when i click on the
plus sign, it expands the folder.
this situation just recently occurred. it always displayed the folders
automatically.
 
that is what i'm talking about. i can't get my documents to expand
automatically, or even by double clicking on it. it won't show it's
folders in the left pane.
