copy does not work in my documents

If i open "my Documents" from the desktop and then go into a sub folder and i
wish to move a file to another folder.

I highlight the file i wish to move then click copy in the left hand window
pane, it then bings up a small window to ask where to copy to; when i go to
expand the file locations it just freezes and will not display any files ie
my documents will not expand to show what is there.

If i then go to close the program down it says program not responding

I can copy files by using windows explorer and drop and drag no problem at all

Any Ideas???

Thanks. Does anyone else have an explanation and/or fix for this problem
other than what Sparhawk had to do. I cannot copy or move folders/files from
the desktop or Windows Explorer. However I was able to copy by using the
right click to copy then right clicking to paste and able to complete my
backup from c drive to e drive.

Thanks Tom. I did not have the confidence to try the fix so called
Microsoft. There tech support assisted me and in retrospect walked me
through the process that you linked me with. It did fix the problem. They
also advised that a fix in their updates will be complete in a week? so that
computers downloading will not have this problem.

Thanks to all that provided comments and help.

I'm glad it's not just me having problems, such as I've managed to lose *tmp
folder, excel icon on desktop try's to open in Word, and I've recently
stared receiving too many Spam in my Mail box,OE.
Reading through the Q&A on this page it seems to me that either we are all a
load of computer idiots or the automatic updates from the many programs we
have on board, are not compatible with other programs, causing problems. Any
suggestions?
