My documents icon is no longer shown in my computer.
I have tried all kinds of things to get the icon back.
Could someone please help?

" I have tried all kinds of things...."

Well - what have you tried?

Display Properties- Desktop Tab - Desktop Icons ??

Jeff, rt click in Start>select Properties>Customize>Advanced. See if
My Computer is displayed as a link.

I'm a bit confused. By default My Documents is shown on the same level
as My Computer, not as a subfolder.

Hi Jeff,

Is XP installed on C:\? Is this the only icon missing? Had you tried
previously changing your folder icon(s)? For the latter, check your
settings here to restore the default folder icon: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons

Double click 3 and 4 in the right pane and clear the Value Data.

You should see My Documents under "Other Places" in the Common Tasks pane
on the left. If that pane is not displayed, check that it is enabled in
Folder Options> General.

Also... One of the options in TweakUI is to show/hide "Files stored on this
computer." When the box is not checked it removes the Documents folders in
the My Computer window. TweakUI is one of the Power toys for XP available
here:

Hi Sharon,

Whether Files Stored on This Computer is there or not, My Documents is not
removed from the left pane for either Common Tasks nor Classic Folders.

If indeed he meant Files Stored on This Computer, then there is no icon, as
it is a category.

Hi, Miss Kelly :)
I use classic in so many windows but oddly, for My Computer - I only use
the XP view/common tasks view and leave it in folder mode (single pane).
Didn't even consider the other possibilities. I hope with all these
responses, that we have all possible configurations and suggestions covered
for the OP. : )
