Hi,

For some inexplicable reason, my 'My Documents' folder has decided to
become a picture folder, so that all the common tasks in the side bar
relate to picture tasks.

For other folders, I know that one can use the 'Customize This
Folder...' option in the View menu to change the folder attributes, but
the MD folder doesn't seem to have this in its View menu drop-down.

Does anyone know how to change the folder type of the MD folder please?

Thanks in advance,
Robin

I get the same problem sometimes, don't know why.

Open a window like My Computer, go to Tools/Folder Options/View then
Reset All Folders.

Yes, thanks.

The downside, of course, is that the display defaults also apply to
every folder -so things that were shown as lists become icons etc. But I
suppose there's no alternative.

Cheers,

Hi Robin,

The "Customize" tab would not be available for special folders like "My Pictures", "My Documents" etc. To fix the problem, try one of the following methods:

[Option 1]
Resetting the folder views:

Click Start, Run and type C:\
Click Tools, Folder Options
In the View tab, click "Reset all folders"
Click OK.
Close the folder

[Option 2]
See: "Common Tasks Don't Match Folder Type"

[Option 3]
You can use Keith Miller's script to fix the problem. Download "TaskPaneFix.zip" from here:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize/msg/d7dd4582cc4b2e99
Note: Close all folder windows before running this script.
